DESCRIPTION:We’re sorry\, this event has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. There will be another Soup and Stories event on Sunday 16th February. See here for details. \nCalling parents\, children and anyone who loves children’s stories! Come and enjoy a warming bowl of soup (provided by The Seed\, Buckfastleigh’s community wholefood store) and then listen to heart-warming stories told by Leo Sofer\, with enchanting music from Sundara Sofer. \nSundays 19th January\, 16th February\, 15th March 5 – 6.30pm (Storytelling lasts 40m). \nAges 5+ \n£4 per adult or child\, £10 family ticket for up to 4 people. \nOnline booking recommended as spaces are limited to 20. \nLeo started storytelling in 1989 and has given thousands of performances for children in schools all over England. He has created a website of stories for children\, Palace of Stories\, which features over 100 audio stories for children. \nSundara Sofer started playing music as a young child\, and plays accordion\, harmonium\, flutes and whistles. Her latest love is the Handpan\, a magical instrument that instantly transports its listeners into story land! Sundara and Leo have been playing music together since they met in 1999.

DESCRIPTION:Once there was a girl whose hair could not be cut. Her mother tried scissors\, which only broke! Her father tried an axe. Same thing! But why? Why is she the only girl with magical hair? It takes a meeting with a wise old woman and many more adventures before she discovers what her hair is really for. \nRunning time 40m. Ages 4+ \nStorytelling by Leo Sofer with music by Sundara Sofer. \nLeo started storytelling in 1989 and has given thousands of performances for children in schools all over England. He has created a website of stories for children\, Palace of Stories\, which features over 100 audio stories for children. \nSundara Sofer started playing music as a young child\, and plays accordion\, harmonium\, flutes and whistles. Her latest love is the Handpan\, a magical instrument that instantly transports its listeners into story land! DESCRIPTION:Leo Sofer (Valmiki) will be sharing about his journey as a spiritual seeker from the age of 16. \n“After many years of development through nonviolent communication and intuitive storytelling\, I found ascension\, a practice rooted in the Vedic wisdom of ancient India\, but presented in a contemporary form that makes it more accessible to westerners. \nI’ve learned that our minds are the principle limiting factor in our experience of life. As we become more aware of our thinking process and start to see it as just one small corner of our total experience of life\, we can start to experience a fuller and richer tapestry of life. Learning that we are less “in control” of our lives than we thought is actually a very liberating thing! \nThis will be an informal talk in which I’ll share some of my own journey\, and the limitations that even being “emotionally aware” and “intuitive” can have. I’ll then talk about ascension and how it has given me the “gold” I was looking for all my life: an intimate sense of life\, love and meaning that continues to expand! I’ll also talk about how ascension works\, what the experience of ascending is like\, and how you can learn it. \nI’ll be teaching a weekend introduction to ascension in Jellyfish on 26-28th April. DESCRIPTION:How do we relearn the art of designing social systems that meet common needs\, helping communities heal from division and hate\, strengthen their resilience and potential to innovate\, and deepen their ability to serve all? \nIn this interactive evening presentation\, Dominic Barter will share his real-world experience with such social\, interpersonal and personal transformation in groups\, neighborhoods\, education\, justice\, organizations\, churches\, trade unions\, government and families. \nFor the last 23 years\, Dominic and his colleagues in Brazil have been developing successful new ways of arriving at liberatory ends through liberatory means. Guided by the work of Marshall Rosenberg their award-winning dialogical social systems have been applied in contexts from gang-controlled favela shanty towns to the federal government and are now in use in 47 countries. This talk will offer a window into what is possible when community reemerges as the basis of our social lives. \nFreely given contributions to the cost of the event and of the work itself welcome on the night. \nRegistration is required to attend this event.
