SUMMARY:An Introduction to Ascension
DESCRIPTION:Leo Sofer (Valmiki) will be sharing about his journey as a spiritual seeker from the age of 16. \n“After many years of development through nonviolent communication and intuitive storytelling\, I found ascension\, a practice rooted in the Vedic wisdom of ancient India\, but presented in a contemporary form that makes it more accessible to westerners. \nI’ve learned that our minds are the principle limiting factor in our experience of life. As we become more aware of our thinking process and start to see it as just one small corner of our total experience of life\, we can start to experience a fuller and richer tapestry of life. Learning that we are less “in control” of our lives than we thought is actually a very liberating thing! \nThis will be an informal talk in which I’ll share some of my own journey\, and the limitations that even being “emotionally aware” and “intuitive” can have. I’ll then talk about ascension and how it has given me the “gold” I was looking for all my life: an intimate sense of life\, love and meaning that continues to expand! I’ll also talk about how ascension works\, what the experience of ascending is like\, and how you can learn it. \nI’ll be teaching a weekend introduction to ascension in Jellyfish on 26-28th April. Our goal is to get people talking with one another about what is happening to them\, their families\, and their communities. \n12 Characters in Search of an Apocalypse is brilliant and important work. It is necessary work. I am grateful to Giraffe Social Enterprise for taking this on. If somehow we make it to a more sane way of living\, it will be due to efforts like this one. \n— Derrick Jensen\, author of Endgame\, A Language Older Than Words\, and The Myth of Human Supremacy. \nHow did it come to be?\nThe morning the Brexit referendum results were announced I realized that I had told myself a false story. That because I was an American living in the UK and because I couldn’t vote\, there was nothing I could do about the process.I quickly realized how wrong I had been. I realized that there had been a gaping hole in the referendum process. Where I lived (rural Wales) and in most other places there were no public gatherings for neighbors to sit down and talk with one another about how they would be affected by leaving the EU. \nI decided then and there I wasn’t going to let that happen again. \nI realize that the same gaping whole is happening around what is often called “global warming” or “climate change” – there are no public gatherings where neighbors can share with one another how their families and their communities are being affected by the unravelling of the web of living beings that supports us. \nThis project – 12 Characters in Search of an Apocalypse – is my effort to change that. \nJason E Stewart \nsee: https://12characters.org.uk/ for more information.

DESCRIPTION:Paul is a self taught illustrator from Coventry\, now living in Buckfastleigh. He has been drawing from an early age\, with a passion for art\, music and cinema. He has drawn inspiration from prog-rock album covers (Yes\, Hawkwood\, Marillion and Pink Floyd) as well as the artwork of 2000ad and DC graphic novels. \nPaul writes: “Angel Finder is a unique collection of drawings I’ve loved and treasured over the years. This is my first exhibition where the original work is for sale. Prices do reflect my own sentiment for them. The teddy bear and child image has become my trademark and makes my work recognisable and personal”.

SUMMARY:Opening Evening - Renewals and Reflections
DESCRIPTION:Karn writes:\nRenewal and Reflections – the cycle of the seasons and now spring bringing forth new life. A new start\, a new beginning each day\, with the sunrise and the sunset\, the stillness of water and the stormy seas. \nIt is my love of the peace and tranquility we can find in nature that has influenced me in the paintings that I am doing now. \nI travelled some years ago with my husband and small children in Europe and North Africa\, both of us painted and played music. We spent time in the mountains\, the desert and by the sea\, and the memories of the places we went to have inspired me in these recent paintings. \nPrevious to this\, I studied ceramics at Art College\, worked in potteries in Denmark and at Poole Pottery. I continue to make pottery\, both sculptural and functional. I also studied paint effects\, finishes and murals\, from which I have done several commissions. \nMy paintings are mostly oil on canvas. I have the good fortune of painting with a lovely group of women and learning techniques from a wonderful mentor whose knowledge is truly inspiring.\n				\n\n					\n				\n\n					Brian writes:\nArt is something that I always loved to do – be it painting\, pen doodles and the more fine-art based abstract photography. The photography side of things was where I started from (but even then the artwork was always there – sometimes as inspiration to the photos)\, drawings and abstracts in watercolours and pen and ink\, plus a few tentative attempts at putting ideas down on canvas. \nThe major and more recent “why” comes down to experiencing one of those unwanted\, unwelcome and prolonged periods of being out of work some years ago now. And I was looking for something to fill that otherwise dead time whilst waiting to hear about jobs that so often failed to materialise\, something that wasn’t too much of a drain on my then limited resources. So painting it was! \nInitially starting with a purely abstract – seeing what worked and what didn’t. From there gradually evolving into a more structured approach\, but still keeping that abstract feel to what I was doing. Also seeing how that approach worked on found objects like driftwood\, as well as doing more traditional – i.e. “proper” paintings – and in the last few months blending these two styles together to see how they worked together – one of which is included in the current exhibition. \nI hope you enjoy the exhibition and that the above goes some way to explaining what exactly it is that I do! \nFor further info/commissions please contact: brian.weatherup@homecall.co.uk\nor visit Brian Weatherup on Facebook
